Located in South Providence, Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School offers exciting Career and Technical Education Pathways, work-based and project-based learning, and comprehensive student supports.. Serving grades 9-12, Alvarez prepares students with 21st-century skills in an equitable and rigorous learning environment to achieve post-secondary success as critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and purposeful problem solvers within their community and a global society.

PPSD was one of the first school districts in the state to launch a formally recognized Pre-K Special Education and K-12 “Grow Your Own” Teacher Apprenticeship Program that was approved by the Rhode Island State Apprenticeship Council.

On Wednesday, students in the school’s Firefighter/EMT Career and Technical Education (CTE) program put on their full gear and entered a controlled burning building alongside Providence firefighters.

Classical High School Named 2026 Rhode Island Blue Ribbon School for Exemplary High Performance

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence Public School District (PPSD) is proud to announce that Classical High School has been officially named a 2026 Rhode Island Blue Ribbon School by Governor Dan McKee, Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green, and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE).

Recognized in the category of Exemplary High Performance, Classical High School is one of only three schools statewide to receive this premier distinction this year. The award highlights schools that demonstrate exceptionally high literacy and mathematics proficiency alongside rigorous academic standards. The latest 2024-2025 SAT results for Classical High School show 90.9% of students meeting or exceeding expectations in English Language Arts (ELA) and 68.1% in Math.
